Found a D60 Rear for Cheap
« on: July 14, 2011, 05:37:30 PM »
Found a D60 rear end in Middleburg for $90, would this be a good axle to swap in? How much work would it take to get it under the CJ? I know the spider gears have been welded together but I can always do away with that and get a selectable locker. For $90 it seems like a great deal. What do you think?

Well I was told this axle is 67" wide and the wide trac CJ axles are 56" which would be way to wide for my application.

Easy swap if you're going to run the full width 67"
Disc conversion - I would not run it with the F250 drums
New perch's, and you'll want to set it back one inch
(center of tube to center of pinion is about 1 1/2" longer
New Conversion drive shaft U Joint 1350 / 1310
New 8 lug wheels

Cutting a 60 down sucks, the spindles are part of the tubes, so pressing out the tubes from the housing is the best way and you'll still need a jig.
Then you'll want to bore the spindles for 35 spline shafts, .... I'd get a 14 Bolt C&C if you want a narrower HD axle

I looked at some pictures of CJ7's running full width axles, I think 63" is the widest I'll want to go.

Full widths are wide when on smaller trucks. If you dont want the wheels sticking out then you need to find a short axle. That is a good price though.

I don't mind the wheels sticking out. I heard that using that axles and some H2 Wheels would put me at about 63", with the tires overall width would be around 70". Looked at some pictures and it looked pretty good. I think I want to stay with an axle that is no wider than 63" to begin with then use wheels backspacing to bring the tires in more.
