I have the housing assembly ( the picture below shows it as I bought it, but I've since disassemble it so, NO axles, no differential, no brakes) from a 1986 Jeep CJ7. This was the factory rear D44 used in the last model year CJ. I gave it to a local 4x4 mechanic to do a rebuild on it and it has a groove worn into the spot where the carrier bearing race should go. This means that the bearing race for the carrier bearing would rotate (which it shouldn't). I've been told that this can be repaired by someone that knows what they're doing, but I had a second axle housing which didn't have the problem, so I had my guy fix that one instead. The axle assembly I'm selling appears to be in good shape (exterior surfaces are good), but that internal component requires repair.

That is a machined surface where the carrier housing sits. If its worn away I don't see how u can repair that. The old owner must have had a bad bearing, it locked and spun. I don't know the cost but I would thing it would be costly to fix it that even can be.
