Official NEFL4x4 Project CJ7
« on: July 07, 2011, 04:55:27 PM »
Right now the whole Jeep is torn apart. I have the body tub sitting in my garage on a dolly I built for it to move it around to fix the rust and do all the body work. The rolling chassis is sitting at my brothers house so I can have room in the garage to work. My grandfather passed last June and left me his old school lincoln mig welder so that's going to be a great help. I also just bought a SpeedAire (Dayton) 7.5hp two stage 80 gallon air compressor which is going to be a life saver because I used to work with a 15 gallon nikota which was no fun.

What I have planned for the Jeep:

    4" Lift Leaf Springs (Have)
    1" Body Lift
    2" Lift Shackles
    BTF Full Width Kit
    TNT Zyros Flare Tube Fenders
Poison Spyder Crusher Corners 3" Flare
    Poison Spyder Ricochet Rockers
    Flushed LED Lights All Around
Whole Jeep Sprayed with Durabak (outside red, inside and armor black)
Rebuilt 258Six with custom TBI system from a Chevy 4.3

That's all I'm going to list for now... but there is much much more in store for the jeep.

Here is the jeep when I bought it, looks in better shape than it actually is.

My buddy Jim from Crabtreetool.com made me up these shackle hangers which are way stronger than the stock ones!

Here is a picture of Jims hangers vs the stock hangers:

Here are some pictures of the frame being mocked up with Jim's shackle hangers.

Now all I need to do is get the frame painted. I have some 2k epoxy primer and Chassis Saver by Monstaliner that I'll be painting the frame with.

The steering column that was in the jeep wasn't original. A buddy off Jeepforum donated this very good condition original steering column to me. The one I had didn't have the ignition on it or the turn signal lever.

Thanks Dave!

Yea Jim at Crabtreetool.com did a great job machining them. They are beefy! He makes them for CJ's and Wranglers but if you contact him he can pretty much make anything. I'm waiting for him to do up some front shock towers right now.

Thanks, hopefully I can get the stuff off the old frame and onto the new one soon and get it into a rolling chassis again. Then I can start the body work.

Got some good news today. A friend of mine owns his own tow company and repair yard. I think he is going to let me move my Jeep to his yard and give me access to it so I can get the Jeep rebuilt. He has a lift and every tool I could ever need so that would be a great help! I'm going to talk to him more about it this weekend and hopefully we'll be loading all the parts up and taking them to his yard  :)

Friends that have things you do not are great. I got a buddy that knows someone in almost any field. I call him if I need anything first.

I hope it works out so can get it there.

Well I know and am known by pretty much everyone in Middleburg/Clay Hill area so I have quite a few friends that own their own businesses. I am really wanting to get things rolling with the CJ7 and get it back on the trails so I figured I'd ask him since he just got a lift and stuff put in and is about to start his own used car lot as well.

He is a great guy and mechanic so if anyone ever needs any work done or a vehicle towed let me know.

Just got offered a whole wiring harness off a 86 CJ7! That is one of the biggest things I was missing so it will deff help get the build going.  :D  He is shipping it out monday and donating it to the project. That's the biggest thing I love about the offroad community is that people are willing to help eachother out. Dave donated the steering column and now Richard has donated a complete wiring harness, CJ owners are great people!
